World is beautiful, can we agree with this statement? I am sure that you do. Today I would like to explain why I use less crowded tourist locations. Why I probably travel like no one else.
Thank you very much for reading my article 🙂 . Since I remember I have had three main hobbies: travelling, photography and cooking. Travelling is not easy, especially while you try building your financial stability, but not impossible. All you have to do is to plan your trips appropriately and start putting money aside in a monthly installments and compromise between the price and comfort in your travel plans 🙂 .
My situation has changed when I moved to Canada. My financial situation very slowly and steadily is improving and I finally can occasionally allow myself a bit of madness in the form of short trips.
How do I manage my budget trips?
- First of all – good plan. When you don’t have plan and go totally spontaneously it will usually cost you a lot of money. Of course someone may say “Hey, but there is something like last-minute travel!” Yes, there is, but first of all not everybody can use this type of travelling and secondly – travel agencies usually offer well known tourist spots, so if you want to go somewhere else it’s quite hard.
If you plan your trip in detail, and I mean you know what you want to see, you have every day planned hour by hour, it will help not only to save money but time and (what is also very important) you don’t miss anything important to see.
- Visiting in low season. As you know, prices in the low season can be much lower than in the high season.
- Use Airbnb or couchsurfing instead of hotels or motels.
For me that kind of travelling is better than any other. The whole process of planning, checking etc. is also some kind of travelling 🙂 This pre-travel part is called “Travel by finger on the map or nowadays on the computer monitor”.
Why some places are more popular than other
In my opinion there are 3 main reasons:
- Cost of transport – I mean the cost of reaching the destination like plane tickets, train etc
- Attractiveness of location
- Local prices
For example: you may go for pennies to somewhere like Sahara desert, but there is no people, no water, high temperature and let’s face it – the attractiveness of this particular localization it’s not very high.
I choose interesting localizations, “exotic” in terms of its popularity; not necessarily due to the temperatures there 🙂 In general, the word “exotic” is usually associated with places like Amazon Forest, Bora-Bora islands, but the exotic in itself does not mean anything hot, only something unusual and unknown.
What made me choose Iceland?
The raw, powerful beauty of volcanoes and ice 🙂
I have been there for only one day, but I may say people are very friendly and what I saw in the short time was really beautiful landscape which I want to explore more 🙂
From what I have learned in the meantime, Iceland offers a lot of interesting things to do and see, some remarkable “must-see” attractions like Blue Lagoon, live functioning volcanoes, ice caves and much more.
My definition of tourism is in ab 30% a gastronomy tourism. Tourism is a form of cultural exchange with another culture, and food is one of the most important elements of every culture in its diversity. Not to mention, that it is a scientifically proven fact, that food-based experiences provide significant pleasure on par with sexual ones. Food is a very integral part of every culture and I like to eat 🙂
From what I know/read Iceland offers a very interesting dishes like Rugbrauð – volcanic bread, Hakarl – fermented shark, dried fishes and a great variety of alcohols.
My list of “to visit places” is growing daily 😉 Nowadays, I have among others: Iceland, Machu Picchu, Great Barrier Reef, Agawa Park and of course New York and many more …
For me to “travel like no one else” mainly means I plan my unique trip; I don’t purchase a prepare trip package from a travel agency. I may use some form tourist agency service only to book flights or organize some other transportation. It’s also about choosing exotic locations, but that is not a necessary condition. Most people decide to buy a prepackaged tour at famous locations, but I try to go to the other way and travel like no one else 😉 …
Below I have attached few photos from my last trip 🙂
